Other Community Parks

Brooklyn and Curtis Bay have over 100 acres of parks. In the center of the two communities is Farring Baybrook Park. On a summer evening the baseball fields are filled with players and their fans. In another corner of the park is the Myers Soccer Pavillion where soccer fans can be found year round. The park also has two elementary schools and a recreation center with a swimming pool. From the overlook, you can see all of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and beyond.

High on the hill is the water tower. The first tower was built in 1893. In 1930, the large black tank was replaced by a circular steel plate tank with an umbrella type roof. In 1932, the city engineer, Frank Heyder drew up plans for a brick façade for the water tank. The two-foot thick shell was constructed out of bricks made by the US Clay Products Kilns. There are over 20 shades of brick that form classical arches and a cross-hatched cornice.

In 2006, the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks began a master planning process to add features to the park. Some of the suggestions include a music pavilion, new trails for cycling, running and walking, and more. Stay tuned to see the results.

In Curtis Bay, there is a small gem of a park that is like a town square. In this park there is a recreation center, a pagoda, wading pool and children’s playground. On any given afternoon, you will find youth playing at the rec center and/or working on their homework. During the days, the Curtis Bay Seniors meet in the hall.

Brooklyn also has a small park, Garrett Park, that sits on another hill overlooking the Inner Harbor. In the park is a Pal Center, tennis courts, a ball field and a children’s playground. Community Associations in both parks hold events including movies on a summer night and picnics.
